Our Story

From a dining-room table to thirty years of getting ERP decisions right.

Two brands. One bench of ERP expertise — for choosing the right system, planning the rollout, and implementing it right the first time. Here's how three decades of Microsoft Dynamics work built the team about to sit across the table from you.

"One of the first goals I set for myself was that I wanted customers to stay with us for at least ten years. These aren't technology projects. They're people projects."

The Foundation · Sunrise Technologies
1994

Sunrise Technologies started in 1994, when John Pence — the former CIO of an apparel manufacturer — launched the firm from his dining-room table. He'd lived through what happens when a company gets the ERP decision wrong: the right budget behind the wrong system, or the right system with no real plan behind it. He built Sunrise to fix that upstream problem — a consultancy organized around getting the decision right, not just implementing whatever was sold.

From day one, Sunrise bet on Microsoft Dynamics — then Axapta, later Dynamics AX, today Dynamics 365 — as the platform patient enough to solve the messy, real-world problems of consumer brands, retailers, and manufacturers.

Honesty. Hard work. Be nice.

In 2003, Sunrise joined the Microsoft Partner Network as a dedicated Dynamics reseller — the start of a partnership that still defines us today. We earned Microsoft Gold ERP competency, built the first Apparel & Footwear solution for Dynamics AX, and opened a Microsoft-certified development center in Xi'an, China.

Over the next two decades, Sunrise grew into a global Microsoft partner trusted with some of the largest, most complex ERP selections and implementations in retail, apparel, footwear, manufacturing, and distribution.

The Turning Point · Late 2010

Our work with global enterprises kept surfacing the same problem — just from the other direction.

Small and mid-sized businesses were outgrowing entry-level tools like QuickBooks, but the powerful ERP systems built for billion-dollar companies were too complex and too expensive for them to adopt.

Then Microsoft introduced Dynamics 365 Business Central — enterprise-grade capability, sized for a growing company to actually plan for and implement on its own timeline. The gap suddenly had a bridge.

The birth of Volt Technologies.

In 2019, John Pence and Mason Whitaker launched Volt Technologies together — built to bring Sunrise's enterprise-grade ERP selection and implementation process to the small and mid-sized market, powered by Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

The idea was simple: give growing companies the same decision framework, the same implementation standards, and the same bench of talent that billion-dollar brands rely on — sized and priced for where they are today.

Where We Are Today

One partnership, two front doors — same bench, right-sized for the business in front of us.

And because the work doesn't end at go-live, both teams offer pay-as-you-go support — so you keep finding value in your ERP for the life of the system, not just the length of a contract.
